Anatomy of the deal · Managed mobility

Fourteen hundred lines. One platform.

Nimbl Networks is a technology advisory firm based in Dallas, Texas, that helps multi-site organizations design, negotiate, implement and support telecom and managed services. The U.S. operations of a global industrial manufacturer moved about 1,400 lines off two national carriers onto one managed mobility platform, priced 24% below the incumbent bills, with the early-termination fees covered.

Approach
Line-by-line audit, priced against the incumbents

The starting point

A trusted network. A sprawling fleet.

The client is the U.S. operations of a global industrial manufacturer: two business units, a headquarters, regional offices and a sales and service team that works from its phones. Our co-founder had worked with its IT team for more than a decade.

Its mobility program had grown up on two national carriers: about 1,400 lines, devices financed one at a time, surcharges on every bill and no single place to manage any of it. Data use per line had doubled in two years. The IT team wanted one platform, one bill and lower cost, without a painful cutover for people in the field.

What was not working

  • Two carriers, two contracts and two bills for about 1,400 lines
  • Data use per line doubled in two years, outgrowing the plans
  • Devices financed line by line, with balances that made switching look expensive
  • About $6K a month in carrier surcharges on top of the plans
  • Suspended and former-employee lines still on the account
  • No single help desk or device management across the fleet

01The path

From first look to one platform.

  1. Listen

    First look

A first managed mobility proposal. We listened, learned what would have to be true, and kept the relationship warm.

  2. Request

    Request for quote

Invoices and inventories from both carriers, priced line by line against the platform.

  3. Challenge

    Honest pushback

The IT team set the first offer against what the carriers were doing directly: cheap plans, dollar phones, surcharges. We took it back to the table.

  4. Approve

    Executive approval

Savings raised from 15% to 20%, a flat per-line fee, pricing held if lines drop 10%, and the buyout clause removed.

  5. Sign

    Signed

Both business units on separate order forms; refreshed line data lifted the larger unit to 24%.

  6. Onboard

    Onboarded

Onboarding complete in 15 days, a project manager assigned, weekly transition calls, then a pilot and self-serve eSIM moves.

A mobility program is not a carrier contract. It is devices, plans, surcharges, support and the cutover, and the savings only hold if every one of them is right.
